Lessons are available at Kings Beach just south of the patrolled lifeguard area. Closest to main tourist hub of Caloundra, Kings Beach is protected from northeast winds better than any surf beach in Queensland. The predominant wind direction for spring and much of summer, northeast winds make all other Sunshine Coast beaches choppy (poor for surfing) whilst at Kings Beach the waves are still smooth and easy to ride on.
Lessons are available at Dicky Beach immediately to the south of the patrolled lifeguard area. Dicky has protection from southerly winds. Though the waves here can be shorter and dumpy (good for more experienced surfers) with the right sandbanks, small swell and south or west winds conditions can also be excellent for beginners.
