North Caloundra Surf School – Caloundra’s Original Surf School, was established two decades ago by Russell Hoffman so he could share the experience of surfing (his lifelong passion) with all who are keen to join in the fun.
NCSS was the first surf school in Caloundra, when it comes to operating a safe, fun surf school and understanding the local beach conditions, nobody else has more experience.
Once a sport only for the brave, dedicated and extremely fit, nowadays your whole family from children to senior citizens can enjoy the thrill of the waves with the help of professional instructors and safe boards designed for beginners. As a Surfing Australia & Queensland surf school, North Caloundra Surf School is recognised as being on the cutting edge when it comes to teaching surfing and is now a provider of surfing as a school sport to most local primary schools.
Whether you are interested in private lessons, joining the popular weekend and holiday group classes or have your own group, our professional team of male and female instructors are ready year round to help bring your surfing dreams to life. Providing you the best service is of the greatest importance to us.
NCSS holds four council permitted BEACHES on the Sunshine Coast: King’s Beach, Dicky Beach, Happy Valley and Currimundi (all within a short distance of each other) where you can learn to surf with us. Relying on the surf and weather conditions, this ensures our large number of students always have the best and safest learn to surf waves available.
Our friendly, experienced coaches provide a wealth of knowledge of all aspects of surfing. No matter what your age, our coaches are trained to be supportive and recognise individual learning levels. We have the professional staff with the qualifications and experience to cover all your learning needs from beginner to advanced levels.
North Caloundra Surf School facilitates surfing lessons for approximately 8000+ participants per year, with some students doing lessons on a weekly basis.

Charity
North Caloundra Surf School has provided charitable donations to sporting programs for Currimundi State School, Meridan College, Caloundra State School and provides free coaching for Windansea Boardriders.
Surf Awareness
Education on surf safety is incorporated into North Caloundra Surf School classes and is especially emphasised in beginner classes and for school classes.

Our coaches are experienced in providing classes for clients with special needs and disabilities.
